Whom We Serve

The Houston Delta Gamma Foundation endeavors to fill gaps in funding for services offered by state and community agencies. The Foundation benefits the blind and visually impaired by funding research to prevent blindness, providing low vision and educational aids, helping with needed medical intervention and counseling, participating in cultural enrichment, and by recently funding examining rooms with state-of-the-art equipment for vision screening at The University of Houston Good Neighbor Clinic and at the Robert Cizik Eye Clinic at the Memorial Hermann Hospital. The Foundation is uniquely flexible in providing this support.

In 2011, grants were provided to 6 applicant organizations. These grant funds are used for research, education, clinical assistance and social enhancement - all related to vision needs.

Frost Eye Clinic at Legacy Community Health Services

Recently, the Houston Delta Gamma Foundation sponsored a Southeastern Guide Dog Puppy. "Hannah" was born on January 16th 2011. She is a yellow lab and is in training to become a guide dog for someone with a visual impairment to travel independently and with dignity.

The Foundation also sponsors projects which mobilize its member volunteers such as day trips for visually impaired children & our annual Astros Night Out. The day trips are designed to emphasize tactile and sound elements, provide social enhancement, and enrichment, and teach life experience in an environment fun for all. For the Astros Night Out, the Houston Delta Gamma Foundation hosts the parents of young children with vision impairments to an Astros Baseball game. The visually impaired child, along with their other siblings, are treated to dinner, games, swimming, and movies at the Lighthouse. The evening gives the parents a chance to participate in a local Houston event without having to worry about the care of their visually impaired child. It's a fun evening for parents and all the children!
